About The Pattern
I have created tulips mandala design this spring – when everything started to bloom. Then later I have decided to transform it to granny square, also to make some changes to the pattern. This cute granny square is very quick to crochet. I have also recorded short videos to show tricky stitches. Checkout these videos to get better understanding of each round.

Size: approx. 11×11 cm with Scheepjes Catona
Materials And Tools (Yarn, Hook)
Yarn – Scheepjes Catona, 50 g = 125 m
- Color S (sage green) – 212 Sage Green
- Color F (fir green) – 525 Fir
- Color B (brown) – 157 Root Bear
- Color Y (yellow) – 249 Saffron
Crochet hook size 2,5 mm
This was yarn set I have used for the written pdf pattern with pictures. There are countless combinations you could use for this granny square. Check out step by step video:
I suggest to explore different combinations. Good start could be this Scheepjes Catona pack and Clover crochet hook 2.5 mm.
In my stitch videos I used Scheepjes Cahlista yarn.
Abbreviations
US notations used.
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
inc – single crochet increase
dc-inc – double crochet increase
hdc – half double crochet
tc – treble crochet
htc – half treble crochet
FPtc – front post treble crochet
FPdc – front post double crochet
st – stitch
slst – slipstitch

Written Pattern
Round 1:
With B yarn start into magic ring with ch 3 (counts as dc), 11 dc. Fasten off yarn. Join with start of the round with invisible join. (12 dc)
Round 2:
With S yarn start in any st. ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same st, *2 dc in each st* repeat 11 times. Fasten off yarn. Join with start of the round with invisible join. (12*2dc=24 dc)
Round 3:
With F yarn start in any st. ch 3 (counts as dc), dc-inc, dc-inc, *dc, dc-inc, dc-inc* repeat 7 times. Do not cut the yarn. Join with start of the round with slst. (40 dc)
Round 4:
All stitches will be into round 2. With S yarn start in st below of the first st on round 3. As a front post st, ch 4 (counts as tc), ch 5, skip 2, *FPtc, ch 5, skip 2* repeat 7 times. Do not cut the yarn. Join with start of the round with slst. (8 FPtc- ch5)
Round 5:
Continue with F yarn, pull yarn into front of the round. ch 1 (counts as sc), skip 1 on round 3, *sc into round 3 and together with chain space (from round 4), the same way – inc, inc, sc, skip 1 on round 3* repeat 7 times, inc, inc. Do not cut the yarn. Join with start of the round with slst. (8 sc-inc- inc-sc = 48 sc)
Round 6:
Continue with S yarn, start with ch 1, *4 FPdc into space under FPtc st on round 4, ch 2* repeat 8 times. Fasten off yarn. Join with start of the round with slst. (8 4FPdc-ch2 = 48 dc)
Round 7:
Continue with F yarn. ch 1 (counts as sc), skip 2 on round 5, *4 sc into round 5 (starting in the first sc of inc from round 5), skip 2 on round 5, 3 sc into space between dc shells on round 6* repeat 7 times, 3 sc into space between dc shells on round 6, 3 sc into round 5. Fasten off yarn. Join with start of the round with invisible join. (8 7sc=56 sc)
Round 8:
With Y yarn start in the round 6, into space between 2dc and 2dc, with ch 2 (counts as start of dc2tog), dc to finish dc2tog, ch 1, dc2tog, ch 1, dc2tog, ch 3, *into the middle of next 4dc shell of round 6 (between 2dc and 2dc) – dc2tog, ch 1, dc2tog, ch 1, dc2tog, ch 3* repeat 7 times. Fasten off yarn. Join with start of the round with slst. (8 dc2tog-ch- dc2tog-ch-dc2tog-ch3)
Round 9:
With F yarn start in first ch 1 space of any “flower”. ch 1 (counts as sc), sc into the same ch space, 2 sc into next ch1 space, 5 sc into ch3 space, *2 sc into next ch1 space, 2 sc into next ch1 space, 5 sc into the ch3 space* repeat 7 times. Fasten off yarn. Join with start of the round with invisible join. (8 5sc-2*2sc=72 sc)
Round 10:
With B yarn start in any st back loop. ch 1 (counts as sc), 71 sc into back loop. Fasten off yarn. Join with start of the round with invisible join. (72 sc)
Round 11:
With F yarn start in any st. ch 1 (counts as sc), 2 sc, 3 hdc, 3 dc, shell – htc, tc, ch 1, tc, htc; 3 dc, 3 hdc, 2 sc, *3 sc, 3 hdc, 3 dc, shell – htc, tc, ch 1, tc, htc; 3 dc, 3 hdc, 2 sc,* repeat 3 times. Join with start of the round with slst. Do not cut the yarn. (8 5sc-3hdc-3dc-htc-tc-ch1-tc-htc)
Round 12:
Continue with F yarn. ch 1 (counts as sc), 10 sc, 3 sc into ch space, 10 sc, *11 sc, 3 sc into ch space, 10 sc,* repeat 3 times. Join with start of the round with invsible st. (96 sc)
Weave in yarn ends. After finishing the granny square, I recommend doing blocking with iron. Put square with wrong side up. Put wet towel on top. Iron shortly. Then stretch it on the board, leave to dry.
