If you’re craving a burst of summer joy in your crochet, this strawberry mosaic square might just be the perfect pick! Continuing the magic of whimsical motifs, I’m excited to share another playful and fresh addition to your mosaic crochet collection – a juicy little square that celebrates sweetness and simplicity.
Overview
Strawberries are more than just a delicious fruit – they’re a symbol of summer, joy, and cozy garden vibes. Whether you’re dreaming of picnic blankets or kitchen accents, this motif brings a splash of cheerful color to your projects.
This mosaic crochet square is worked in mosaic overlay technique, sized to mix & match with other squares from my collection.
The square can be used as a component in larger projects such as afghans, throws, baby blankets, pillow cushions, bags, or even as standalone decorative pieces.
Materials Needed
Gather the following supplies:
- Worsted weight yarn in two contrasting colors. I used Old Lace white (A), and Charcoal (B).
- A crochet hook suitable for your chosen yarn.
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends.
- Scissors.
I used Scheepjes Catona yarn and hook 2.5 mm.
Abreviations

ch – chain
sc – single crochet
st – stitch
slst – slip stitch
dc – double crochet
BLOsc – single crochet into back loop
FLOdc – double crochet into front loop
BLOsc3shell – three BLOsc into one st
Round Join from the Back – Perfect for Mosaic Crochet
One of the challenges in mosaic crochet is changing colors in each round while keeping your work neat and tidy. To achieve a clean and polished look, use the “Join from the Back” technique. Here’s how it works:
- When you reach the end of a round and need to join with a slip stitch, instead of joining in the usual way (inserting your hook into the top of the first stitch), flip your work to the backside.
- Insert your hook from back to front through the top of the first stitch of the round.
- Next, insert your hook into the loop of last stitch.
- Pull this loop through the loop already on your hook. This creates a slip stitch that joins the round, but it’s hidden on the backside of your work.
This technique creates an almost invisible join on the front side, giving your mosaic crochet project a clean and seamless appearance.

Hi everyone! 😊
Thanks for sharing the “Mosaic Square Strawberry” pattern – it’s really adorable! 🍓 I love when designs are so colorful and cheerful, yet simple enough to make. Perfect for both beginners and more experienced crafters.
I’m curious if anyone has tried turning this into a larger project, like a blanket or pillow – how did it turn out?
Happy crafting! ✂️🧶
Thank you very much! I have crocheted various squares and mixed into one baby blanket. I’m sure you could crochet the all squares just from Strawberry :)
